Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin @ Mojo's, 01/28/09

SSLYBY

Another year, another Boris Yeltsin show at Mojo's.

Aside from a typical setlist of Broom, Pershing, and some early material, the band offered only one new song to the hundred-plus fans that packed Mojo's on Wednesday night. It sounded fantastic though, and - this is key - restrained. The end of the song has one of those jumping off points like nearly every song on Pershing seemed to have, where they'd totally rock out man and thus totally annihilate the formula that made Broom such a charming affair. But this time, instead of blowing the thing wide open, they just ended the song. Perfect.

And yes, to answer your question, it would have fit right in on Broom and yes, it is a very promising start for the new material.

Other things you missed if you failed to attend this show
- Drummer Phil asked for some water, pointed to a half-empty cup of beer on top of the speakers, sniffed it, looked to the audience for some support, then drank the whole thing. He's a thirsty boy.
- John-Robert did an impeccable Michael Jackson impression for a verse of "Billie Jean."
- John-Robert also missed and hit his face on the mic to comical effect at least three times.
- John-Robert also took off his pants for the encore.

Also this. Someone still loves you super cute girl in the very front, and it's the shy, 18-year-old Craigslister to your left.

Shout-outs to chick who helped us with the Spoon setlist way back when and guy who looked at me like I was an idiot when I asked him if he thought anyone had ever told Scouts that they're an emo band.

Haha, totally wasn't expecting the shout-out. Thank you! I'm Molly by the way.

Great show, and great review / pics as well! Nice to meet you. I think we've been to a lot of the same shows judging by what I've read on your blog!

Props!
